Fatherhood

This is a poem Gordon wrote for his daughter, dated August 27, 2000, two and a half months prior to her birth:

Song fer me wee un

I married a deer on the eve of new year
Finally, a wish that came true
Yet I'd forgotten one other, made after the first
'Bout a child... 'granted,' wee un it's you

Mysteries abound 'round this journey called life
Some things are said... 'Just meant to be'
Alone forty odd years, and now have me a wife
Who's fulfilled that second wish for me

They say no one knows what the future may bring
But with both of you by my side
I'll always find strength, to do the right thing
Fuelled by honest, love and pride
